The A List: Boat International Names the World’s Top 50 Yacht Designers
In May 2015, Boat International devoted its Design Issue to a new annual tribute, The A List, celebrating the fifty designers judged to be shaping the superyacht industry. Fiona Seymour was named among them, featured in the magazine’s Female Designers section alongside eight of the most respected names in yacht design.
Nine Women, One Industry
The nine designers photographed for the feature were Francesca Muzio of FM Architettura, Paola Galeazzi of Zuccon International Project, Fiona Seymour of Seymour Diamond, Laura Pomponi of Luxury Projects, Laura Sessa, Sandrine Melot of Melot + Trillo, Pascale Reymond of Reymond Langton, Adriana Monk of monkdesign, and Daniela Zulli of Terence Disdale Design. Boat International noted that despite the wider superyachting world running close to an even gender split, yacht design itself remained a stubbornly male business, making the nine pioneers worth celebrating.
Fiona’s own profile traced her path from honing her craft on more than thirty projects alongside Terence Disdale, including the interiors of Eclipse and Pelorus, to launching Seymour Diamond in 2010. By the time the issue went to print she had just completed the interior of Feadship’s 92.5 metre Royal Romance. Asked what men still don’t understand about boats, she answered with characteristic wit that they would simply have to ask them.

A Line-Up of Legends
The wider feature crossed continents to pay tribute to yachting’s Legends, among them Andrew Winch, Terence Disdale, Espen Øino, Rémi Tessier and Tim Heywood, as well as the Sailing Greats, The Brit Pack, Global Players, Dutch Masters and Italian Flair. To be counted in the same pages as names of that stature remains one of the finest pieces of recognition Fiona and the Seymour Diamond studio have received.
